1.) Popular Sovereignty: The power to govern belongs to the people. The government is based on what the people want.
2.) Seperation of Powers: The different powers of the government are given to the 3 branches of the gov. ( Legistlative - Passes laws and includes the Congress) (Executive - Enforces laws and includes the President) (Judiciary - Understands laws and includes the Supreme Court) 3.) Checks and Balances: A system where branches of some power over others. This gaurentees that people will have thier freedom and there can be no tyranny, or cruel rule. 4.) Limited Government: The government is not all- powerful. It can do only what the people want it to do. 5.) Federalism: Power is eqaully given to the central government and the states. 6.) Rule of Law: No person is above the law. This means that every peson has to follow the laws including the President. |
